The Setup Machinist will be responsible for the setup and operation of complex (4 and 5 axis) jobs on our CNC mills. They will ensure their parts meet quality standards and are responsible for 1st part approval, prior to turning over the machine to an operator. He or she will assist in the training of other Axial employees as required.
The goal is to produce high quality parts by following strict manufacturing procedures and ensuring machine cycle time is optimized. A keen eye for detail and excellent problem-solving skills are essential for success in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Set-up jobs, as scheduled, to run on our MAZAK, HAAS or CHIRON milling machines.
- Follow established manufacturing processes and procedures. Work with the programmer to ensure accuracy and completeness of all Setup and Job-related work instructions.
- Responsible for 1st piece approval and machine hand-off. As well as training and/or overseeing multiple operators.
- Ensure that cycle times expectations are meet or exceeded.
- Make offsets, Speed/Feed and rapid edits as needed to further improve cycle time, tool life and quality.
- Inspect deburred parts to ensure conformance to quality specifications, using gauges, micrometers, calipers, comparators microscopes and other measuring tools as required.
- Operate machines as required between set-ups.
- Follow procedures as needed to address non-conformities.
- Document Inspection data, outcomes or results as needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment.

Position Requirements:
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings.
- Minimum 2 years setup experience (MAZAK, HAAS, CHIRON Preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Mechanical aptitude and good math skills.
- Physical ability to safely lift objects up to 50lbs and stand/walk for more than 5 hours per day.
